• Understand anatomy and morphology of trees and basic wood physiology.

NRES 310 - Introduction to Forest Management (4 credits)

• Learn about the history, biology, and management of the world's forest resources with emphasis on the Great Plains region.

NRES 321 - Arboriculture (4 credits)

• Learn the basics of individual tree care through lectures and weekly hands-on lab activities.

NRES 417/817 - Agroforestry (3 credits)

• Learn about the role of woody plants in sustainable agricultural systems of temperate regions.
• Emphasis on the ecological and economic benefits of trees and shrubs in the agricultural landscape.

NRES 424/824 - Forest Ecology (3 credits)

• Every spring semester
• Explore the function and structure of forest ecosystems including their response to global change.
• Emphasis on forest succession and disturbance regimes in order to understand the dynamics of forested landscapes.

​NRES 457/857 - Green Space and Urban Forestry Management (3 credits)

• Every spring semester
• Focus on management of trees, parks, and green infrastructure in rural and urban communities. 
• Development and implementation of green space and forest management plans encompassing societal needs and biological limitations.
